Obituary of Robert S. Taraska

Robert S. Taraska, age 78, died on September 29, 2015. Born in Philadelphia, Robert lived in Pitman since 1950. Robert graduated from Pitman High School in 1955. He served in the US Army from 1957-1959. Robert began a career as an industrial salesman for Industrial Pump and Supply Company. In 1981 he started Anchor Sales Associates in Bridgeport, NJ and was President and Treasurer until his retirement in 2003. Robert was very active with his faith. At the age of 18, he joined the Holy Name Society and served two terms as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Pitman. He was elected to the Parish Council 1968-70 and again in 2001 where he served as President. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Assumption Council Glassboro and a charter member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Council 6247 in 1970. He served as an officer or chairman for over 45 years, served as Grand Knight (1974-76) and was honored as Knight of the Year in 1977. Robert also coached and umpired Little League Baseball and Softball, Babe Ruth baseball and served as chairman for the Pitman High All Sports Banquet Committee. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Barbara (nee Geyer), children Robert (Allison), Deborah (Sara Walls), Christine (Aaron) Crispin, grandchildren Jake, Cory, Brent, Dani, Chase, Jack, brothers John (Marie), Frank and many nieces and nephews. Friends may greet the family on Monday 6-9pm and on Tuesday 9:30-10:30 in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral Mass will be at 11am in Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish (Our Lady Queen of Peace Church), Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Interment Gloucester County Veteran's Cemetery.
