Obituary of Gladys C. Jarvis

Gladys Coles Reiter Jarvis, 81 died October 2, 2015 at her home in West Deptford surrounded by her family. Gladys was raised in Woodstown, graduated from Glassboro High School in 1951 and raised her family in Pitman before moving to West Deptford in 1972. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Glassboro State College and operated a day care service at home in Sherwood West. She worked for New Jersey American Water Works in Voorhees, retiring after 19 years. Gladys was a former member of the Pitman Junior Women's Club and former active member of the First Baptist Church of Pitman enjoying the camaraderie of its members on many retreats, events and socials. Gladys recently became an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pitman where she jumped right in serving as Usher, Greeter, Transport Driver and Deacon of Hospitality visiting homebound church members with Pete Staman. Gladys was an avid square dancer, camper and world traveler who took great pleasure sitting on a shady porch, a tropical balcony, collecting shells at the shore and the sharp, crisp air of a ski slope. She was predeceased by her husband John Jarvis and her former husband Frederick B. Reiter. Survived by her children Frederick B. Reiter, Jr. (Evonne), Steven R. Reiter, David W. Reiter (Annette), Jeanne L. Reiter, Charles S. Reiter (Nicole), grandchildren Shauna Reiter, Grace Ewing (Timothy), Jesse Reiter, Brad Reiter (Ashley), Alyssa Reiter, Kristina Reiter, Dannielle Reiter, David Tyler Hoskinson, great grandchildren Kaleb Reiter, Joshua and Annelise Ewing and siblings Doris Carll, Walter Coles, Carolyn Carney, sure to be greeted by many on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Friends may greet the family on Saturday at 10am in the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, South Broadway, Pitman, NJ. Memorial service will be at 11am. Internment will be Friday at 11am in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Washington Twp, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pitman Food Pantry, 30 N. Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071.
