Obituary of Donald Barger

Donald Barger, age 79 years, former Mayor of Glassboro, died January 2 with his family at his side. Born in Woodbury, he was a life long resident of Gloucester County and had lived in Glassboro for 56 years. He was employed as the Service Manager by Ace Ford, retiring in 1994, and was then employed by the Gloucester County Dept. of Aging. Donald served on Glassboro Council for 6 terms from 1970 to 1985. He was elected to two terms as Mayor from 1986 to 1994. He served on the Glassboro Planning Board for 23 years and was Glassboro Democratic Club President from 1967 to 1971. He was a past president and member of the Gloucester County Mayor's Association and member of the Gloucester County Democratic Committee. He was a member of St. Bridget's Church, and St. Anthony's Mutual Aid Society. He was a past member of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors and the United Auto Service Workers of America AFL & CIO Local #355, and the Communication Workers of America Local #1085. He was an avid fan of Nascar and Phillies Baseball. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia H. (nee DiTaranto), and children; David B. (Tracy), Stephen M. (Annette), Karen (Kris) VanDexter, and Kathleen (Tim) Estes. Also survived by his eight grandchildren; Eddie, Jonathan, and Jennifer Barger, Ryan and Erin VanDexter, Brian, Kyle, and Tyler Estes, great granddaughter Nora Barger, brothers Robert and Harry, sisters Mildred Mills, Florence Porter, Fern Neubert, and Emily Stecher. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:30AM to 12:30PM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral mass at 1PM at St. Bridget's Church, 125 Church St., Glassboro, NJ.
