Obituary of Kent Franklin Jones

Kent F. Jones, age 70, Millville, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2016, after a courageous 4 year battle with neuroendocrine islet pancreatic cancer. Kent was born in Philadelphia, PA, to Frank H. and Velda Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Judith of Millville, NJ, son Rev. Scott Jones (Lindy) of Langhorne, PA, brother Russell K. Jones (Kathy) of Hendersonville, TN and several cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two special adopted "Grandchildren", Frank Joseph and Elese Ann Serio of Greenville, MS and his beloved "4 legged pal" Webster. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Lora R. Price. Prior to his retirement in 2011, Kent worked as a bridge engineer for several different companies. Among his many accomplishments, he was the Resident Engineer for the Northeast's first Cabled Stayed Bridge over the C & D Canal in Delaware. He was the #3 Engineer for the Cable Stayed Bridge over the Mississippi River in Greenville, MS and Lake Village, Ark. and was the Asst. Resident Engineer for the new 9th Street Bridge in Ocean City, NJ. Kent was the founder and President of the Pitman, NJ Historical Society and wrote the original ordinance for the Society. He was a long time member of the Pitman United Methodist Church, where he served on the Staff Parish Committee and was twice Chairperson for the Trustees both in the old and new church. He also served as a Trustee for the Kitty Hawk, NC United Methodist Church, and the Greenville, MS United Methodist Church. Kent also served as Lay Leader for the Greenville United Methodist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher and taught many Bible Studies. Kent was a Past member of the Glassboro Masons, Collingswood Consistory and the Pitman Kiwanis Club. Friends may greet the family on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 1:30-3pm in the Chapel of the Pitman United Methodist Church. Service to follow at 3pm in the Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kent's memory to the Pitman United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 758 N.
