Obituary of Margery Blackman

Please share a memory of Margery to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margery Myrtetus Blackman died Saturday, August 13 at her son's home in Mount Laurel. She was born October 14, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pa. to Louis Myrtetus and Violet Harmer Myrtetus. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Dr. Edward D. Blackman, Jr., a long time Pitman NJ dentist. Also predeceased by her daughter, Andrea Kling (nee Blackman), her son Jesse Keith Blackman, and her sister Vivian Shimp. Margery is survived by daughter Lisa (Czach Corno) of Stuart, FL, son Doug (Lynne) of Mt Laurel NJ, son-in-love Richard Kling (Andrea's husband), four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Margery lived virtually all her life in Pitman, only moving for short periods to Patuxent, MD, Virginia Beach VA, and Cherry Point, NC during World War II and the Korean War when Ed served as a military dentist. She graduated from Spring Garden College for Dressmaking and Design, and worked for DeWeese Clothiers as a dressmaker, and in the Camden shipyards as a draftsman working on blueprints. At the Camden Shipyards, Margery was one of 18 women working with over two hundred men. Later in life she worked in Ed's dental office. Marge and Ed were married October 7, 1944 at the Pitman United Methodist Church. Margery was a past President of Sinawik, the ladies' arm of Kiwanis in Pitman. She and Ed ran the junior choir at the Pitman United Methodist Church for 14 years, and she also served as a Trustee of the church. She met the love of her life in first grade, and was happily married to Ed for 69 years. They and the family and friends loved camping and traveling around the lower 48 states, traveling to all 48. An avid gardener, she loved flowers and always had fresh flowers in the house. Later in life, she and Ed purchased a home in Ocean City, entertaining friends and youth from the Pitman and Moorestown United Methodist Churches at their home. She loved her family and friends and was faithful to her Savior. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071 on Thursday August 18. The service will start promptly at 7PM, with a gathering of friends and family after the service in the Social Hall. Donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to Ranch Hope for Boys, 37 Sawmill Road, Alloway, NJ 08001 and to the Pitman United Methodist Church. Memories may be shared at www.Kelleyfhpitman.com.
