Lois Jane Greene (nee Bender) age 94 of Van Punga, 427 Salina Road, Sewell, NJ entered into eternal rest on August 18, 2016 at her home with family at her side. Lois was born on February 16, 1922 and raised in Albany, NY. She was the youngest of five children born to Lloyd and Helen Bender. Lois graduated Albany High School in 1939 and State Teachers College at Cortland New York in 1943. She obtained her Masters in Library Science from Glassboro State College in 1971. During her senior year of college, she went on the "best blind date ever" and met the love of her life, Thomas Goodwin Greene (12/27/20-1/11/04). She and "Tommy" were married on June 26, 1943. Together they lived a full life. After World War II, Lois relocated to NJ. She taught 2nd grade at Aura School. She then devoted herself to raising her five sons. Never idle, she provided a home full of life and learning, encouraging her sons to each develop as individuals. When her youngest headed to kindergarten she started a new career as the first Library Director of the James H. Johnson Memorial Library in Deptford Township. She retired in 1997 after serving for 29 years. Lois was one of the founding members of the Gloucester County Chapter of the American Association of University Women. She was appointed to the Bicentennial Committee for Deptford Township and served on the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission. Lois was an active member of the Pitman United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She taught Sunday School and was active in Wesleyanns and was a founding member of Golden Threads. She also sang as a member of SongSpinners women's chorus. Lois enjoyed reading, especially to grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved making holidays memorable for her family from Christmas music box collection to her Fourth of July Blueberry muffins. Her gift of hospitality embraced her large extended family and dear friends. Lois is survived by her five sons, Ronald (Patricia), Robert, Richard (Katherine), Roger (Robin) and Randy (Justine), daughter-in-love Edie West (Glenn), 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, "adopted" sons, daughters and grandchildren all of whom she made feel cherished.
