Obituary of Harry H. Walker

Harry H. Walker passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 27, 2016. Age (83 ). Beloved husband, father, brother and brother-in-law, grandfather. Survived by his wife Maureen (Shaw) of 61 years; children David (Barbara) and Kimberly Speak (James), grandchildren Timothy and Stephanie Walker; Matthew, Jeffrey and Eric Speak and sister Kathleen (Sally) Brown. Harry was a graduate of Clayton High School Class of 1951 and was employed by E.I. DuPont prior to joining the Army (1953-56). He was a graduate of Lincoln Prep, Rutgers and Temple University (Masters of Science) and was employed by Mobil Research as a Senior Research Chemist (34 years). He was a long-time Scout leader in Pitman for Pack 266, Troop 18 and Explorer Post 118. He enjoyed skiing, cycling, running, backpacking, music, camping and doing science with grandson Tim. His second career was entertaining local seniors as The Music Man. He was male vocalist for the Silvertones Big Band and recorded several CDs of his own music. He could fix all things large and small. He served as Recycle Coordinator for the Borough of Pitman for over 20 years and as MC and record-keeper for the Clayton High School Alumni Committee. He was a frequent contributor to the editorial page of the South Jersey Times with off-beat letters. Friends may greet the family after 1:30pm on Sunday, January 8 in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Memorial service will be at 3pm.
