Obituary of Louise M. Yusko

Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
"Saltwater cures everything," she always told us. As children, a dip in the ocean calmed our scrapes and sunburns. As adults, it continues to soothe any ailment. That's because Louise Makutenas Yusko made Long Beach Island our gathering place, where the extended family has traveled to every summer for nearly 50 years. She lived a beautiful, understated life and was always up for an adventure. She was endlessly generous with her time and patience, and she taught her family how to be kind and love unconditionally, without having to say a word. Louise's family admired her as an educated, progressive woman. She graduated from Cornell University with a BS in nursing, an amazing accomplishment for a woman in 1946. Early in her career, she taught nursing at the former Elizabeth General Hospital School of Nursing in Elizabeth, N.J. and also worked there part time as a nurse on the pediatric floor; later, she worked in Elizabeth Public Schools as a school nurse. Louise passed away on Jan 30, surrounded by her family, at the age of 92 at her home in Pitman, New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband Vincent Yusko and her son, Ted Yusko. Louise's legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild — four of which are named after her. She is survived by her sisters Veronica Makutenas and Anne Kulbok; her children Rita Louise Lechner, Bill Yusko, Hilda Yusko DiBlasio and son-in-law Denis DiBlasio; her grandchildren Sarah Louise Lechner, Daniel Yusko, Imogen Yusko, Kate Elwell (Peter Elwell), Natalie Louise DiBlasio and her great-granddaughter Hope Louise Elwell. And, of course, her beloved cats Kev and The Dude. Memories may be shared at www.kelleyfhpitman.com
