William J. Wildes, age 85 died on December 2, 2006 in Elmer Hospital. Born and raised in Plains, PA he lived in Pitman since 1953. He was an Army Veteran of WWII serving from 1942 -1945 in the European Theater. He became a NJ State Trooper in 1946, he was promoted to Detective in 1953 and retired in 1973 as Captain (Troop A Commander) in Hammonton. He started with the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office in 1973 and became a County Detective for the Prosecutors Office in 1975. After 41 years in law enforcement he retired in 1987. During the 1964 Democratic Convention, he was responsible for gathering intelligence and for planning security for the 1967 Glassboro Summit Meeting of President Johnson and Soviet Premier Kosygin. He was the husband of the late Irene T. (nee Lane). Survived by sons Rev. Kevin W. of President of Loyola University, New Orleans, Dennis W. (Mimi) of Pitman, Christopher T. (Michele) of Severna Park, MD 5 grandchildren Ashley Wildes, Joshua Garcia, Meghan, Colleen and Connor Wildes, brothers Thomas and Joseph, and Sisters in Law Patricia McCue and Anne Marie Myer. Friends may call Sunday after 6:30pm at the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman. and Monday 10:00 - 10:45am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Pitman Ave, Pitman. Funeral mass will be at 11am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
