William Paul Demetris of Pitman, NJ, son of the late Paul and Fevronia (Joanides) Demetris, passed away peacefully just before sunrise on March 14th, 2023 after a period of health challenges. He was born on July 17, 1933 in Bridgeport, PA and was 89 years old. He graduated from Norristown Area High School and The Pennsylvania State University where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. After college, he served as a Communications Specialist in the United States Army at the height of The Cold War. Stationed in Germany, he was a proficient Morse code translator. A hardworking, conscientious man, he began his long career with The Coca-Cola company as a driver salesman and advanced to the position of Account Executive with responsibility for the entire South Jersey region. He was married to Katherine (Kollas) Demetris in June 1963. Upon her premature passing in 1980, he raised his two sons as a single parent to responsible adulthood. Surviving him are: Paul W. Demetris (Kara) of London, UK and Dean W. Demetris (Gina Laspata-Mancini) of Pitman, NJ. Mr. Demetris held leadership positions in many service clubs and was a member of the St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church of Cherry Hill, NJ. He loved and lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, whether chatting and telling stories, working on jigsaw puzzles, playing golf, or having a meal at a local diner. He was fair, happy and never found the need to get angry. He was a voice of reason. He loved his travels to the UK, Europe and other parts of the world. He also loved to spend time in Florida or at the Jersey Shore, and enjoyed road trips to both places. During his trips back home from Florida to New Jersey, he would often stop in Asheville, NC to see extended family. He cherished those gatherings. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jacob, John and Philip. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Nicolas, Timothy, Alexander and Katherine Demetris; his sisters: Sophia (Demetris) Ammon of Sellersville, PA and Catherine (Demetris) Nicholas (William) of Norristown, PA; Gianna, Carla, Maria and Santino Mancini; nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Visitation hours will be held Monday, March 20th from 5-7PM at Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Avenue, Pitman, NJ. Funeral services will be at 11AM Tuesday, March 21st at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 900 S Trooper Road, Jeffersonville, PA with visitation at 10AM. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, 200 S Montgomery Avenue, West Norriton, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
