Mari L. Cook (nee Conturo), passed away at her home in Pitman, NJ on August 3, 2017. Born in Newark, Ohio to Naomi and Robert Conturo on May 17, 1957, she lived her pre-school days in Sylvania, Ohio, her grade school days in Westfield NJ, attended high school in Dresher/Fort Washington PA, and college at The Art Institute in Pittsburgh PA. Mari is preceded in death by her mother, Naomi and brothers, Philip, Richard, and David. She is survived by her father, Robert and stepmother, Carolyn of New Bern, NC, and her brother, John and his wife, Lisa of Cape May, NJ. Mari also has two nieces, three nephews, and one grandniece. Mari was employed by Kennedy Hospital in Washington Township as a housekeeper. She was very dedicated to her work and to the comfort and satisfaction of the patients she served. Always upbeat and cheerful, her conversations included how much she loved her job and the wonderful people with whom she worked. Mari was a "cat person" since childhood. Recently, she lost her beloved tuxedo cat "Shadow", her companion for 16 years. Mari considered "Shadow" as her personal "caregiver", being sure they ate, slept and awoke at the proper times each day. The loss of "Shadow" hit Mari very hard. Mari loved life in South Jersey, particularly the beaches. Most of her adult years were spent in Woodlynne, Sewell and Pitman. She was also a "friend" to many on Facebook, keeping contact with friends and relatives from many years past. Thank you all for the many kind remembrances recently posted. A memorial service celebrating Mari's life will be held at 2 PM, Thursday August 17th in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ. Interment New Bern, NC.
