Obituary of Mike Trechock

Please share a memory of Mike to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mike Trechock, 90, of Glassboro, NJ, passed away December 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. Mike was born in 1927 in Gary, West Virginia. He grew up in Atlantic City and spent part of his childhood on the family farm in Bethel, Ohio. He met his future wife, Catherine (Kitty) nee Basler, while they both worked at the Kodak store on the Atlantic City boardwalk. While serving in the Air Force from 1951-1955, Mike was afforded the opportunity to live with his wife in Montana and Idaho. Being an accomplished trumpet player, Mike was a member of the 695th Air Force Band. After the Air Force, Mike attended Glassboro State College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees while raising a family. He worked in education for the Township of Cherry Hill for 28 years, first as a teacher and then as an administrator. He continued playing the trumpet for most of his life. He could usually be found on Wednesday & Saturday nights performing with the George Moyer Orchestra for more than twenty years. Mike had a great sense of humor and an inquisitive mind, and would often question the logic or value of his high property taxes ("Why does anyone live in this state?"). He could always be found puttering in the vegetable garden, and would often drop bags of home grown vegetables on his neighbors' porches in the wee hours of the morning. Mike was a loving caregiver for many during his lifetime, including his wife's parents, wife Kitty until her death in 2002, and lastly for his brother Andy. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Trechock and Anna (nee Ninichuck) and his wife Catherine (Kitty). Mike is survived by his brothers, Andy and Jack, and his sister, Olga; his children, Janet McLoughlin (Jeff), Carol Brown (David), and Daniel Trechock, Sr. (Paula); his grandchildren, Michael (Jade), Katherine (Gregory), Daniel Jr., and Jamie; and his great-grandchildren, Ayana and Avery. Friends may call after 12:00pm on Saturday in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Memorial service at 1:00pm. Interment Manahath Cemetery. Contributions to the American Heart Assoc., 1 Union St., Robbinsville, NJ 08691. Memories may be shared at www.kelleyfhpitman.com.
