James W. Rishel, Sr. age 80, passed away on February 26, 2018 at his home in Pitman. Born in Danville, PA, he moved to Pitman in 1947 and graduated from Pitman High School in 1957. He was also a graduate of Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia. Jim retired in 1998 after 36 years as an auto claims adjuster with Allstate Insurance. Known to most as simply "Rishel", he was a bear of a man whose sense of humor and generous spirit was equal to his size. Throughout his life he took joy in anonymously helping anyone in need. Rishel loved his garage, where all were welcome, and could be found there most days spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of K of D since 1987. Throughout his life he enjoyed working on cars, especially restoring Ford Mustangs, hunting, fishing, "trapping", and loved attending community suppers at many local lodges. Survived by his wife of 33 years Betty J. "BJ" (nee Godman), children Kimberly R. Rishel (Anthony Mecca), James W. Jr. "JJ" (Tara), his grandchildren, Seth and Sydni Martin, loving nephew Jonathan "JC" Martz, his beloved dog Bailey and many loving nieces and nephews. Also survived by Jodi L. Kitchin and her 3 children. All who loved him are welcomed by the family to attend A Celebration of Life being held at Carolina Blue on March 10, 2018 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300 Marlton, NJ 08053 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 521 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
