Lee Charles Smoot, age 63 years, died suddenly but quietly at his home in West Deptford, NJ on May 28, 2018. He was son of the late George and Elizabeth (nee Jencks) Smoot. Lee was born in Woodbury on December 3, 1954, and grew up in Glassboro where he attended the Campus School, Glassboro Intermediate School, and graduated from Glassboro High School in 1973. Lee served in the United States Naval Reserve and did two tours of active duty. In the 1970's, he was assigned to the destroyer U.S.S. Hamner; in the mid 1980's, he was on the guided missile cruiser U.S.S. Josephus Daniels during a tour to the Mediterranean Sea. Other than his time in the Navy, Lee spent most of his life in Glassboro, Brooklawn and West Deptford. He was a lifelong, diehard Phillies and Eagles fan, and always supported Navy football. Predeceased by his longtime partner, Valerie D. Ireland.
He is survived by his brother Andrew and his wife Elizabeth, his dear friend Antionette Sosnoski, and the many friends who are already missing him greatly.
Friends may call on Saturday, June 2 from 10 to 11am in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Memorial service at 11am.
