Obituary of Dirk L McNeely

Dirk L. McNeely, age 71, passed into Glory on Oct 24, 2018. Raised in Luverne, Minnesota, he spent time in Montana and Wyoming photographing the mountains of the west before moving his family to Pitman in 1987. He was passionate about coaching youth soccer teams and served in the Faith Alliance AWANA clubs. He enjoyed memorizing Bible verses and exploring the themes of biblical creation with his friends. His love of Creation Science led him to discover belemnite and crustacean fossils in the streams of South Jersey. When not spending time with his family, Dirk worked as a media specialist in the library at Triton Regional High School and later retired in 2007 from Salem High School as head librarian. He also worked as an adjunct librarian at Savitz Library on the campus of Rowan College. Dirk received his undergraduate degree in English from the University of Minnesota in 1969. During his time there he served in the ROTC US NAVY from 1965-1969. Dirk then obtained his Master's Degree in secondary education from Sioux Falls College and went on to earned his second masters from Glassboro State College (now Rowan) in Library Media. Survived by his wife of over 39 years Karen (nee Sorbo), three daughters Megan (Adam) Robinson, Erin (Kevin) Schwartz, Shannon (Justin) Rosenbaum, son Drew L. McNeely and granddaughters Irene and Claramae. A celebration of life will be held at 7pm on Friday at Faith Alliance Church, 423 Barnsboro Rd, Sewell, NJ 08080.
