Obituary of Janet S Staub

Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet S. Staub (nee Silvers), age 72, died on April 23, 2019. Raised in Pitman, Janet graduated from Pitman High School in 1964. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Oberlin College in Ohio, and her Master's Degree from Glassboro State College (which is now Rowan University). Jan dedicated her life to church and to God, proudly donning multiple hats over her career as a church organist, culminating as the Director of Traditional Worship for the Woodstown Presbyterian Church. She retired this past June after 60 years of service. As a young woman, she won beauty pageants, did well in school, and excelled in debate. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, and she owned and operated the Little Red Hen Nursery School in her late twenties. She later excelled as a sales distributor for Tupperware, and became a music teacher at Saint Bridget School in Glassboro. All the while she followed her creative passion, composing many hymns, songs, and even a musical. She painted ceramics, and crocheted many a blanket. Amid all that, she still found the time to give voice lessons, piano tutorials, lead study and support groups, direct the church choir, and play for weddings and funerals. She was a member of the German Club in Camden for many years, and was known to dance a polka or two. Jan always exuded Southern Belle charm, and was quite the socialite. She was reigning champion of Trivial Pursuit, loved UNO and canasta. Jan also enjoyed relaxing…she loved nothing better than to be by the ocean, and to listen to the sound of the crashing waves. When that wasn't possible, she'd take refuge on the couch with the latest novel. The couch also served as her front-row seat to every Phillies game, Eagles game, and golf match...as she was an avid sports fan. She is survived by her two children, Amy and Jeff. When Jeff married (a different) Amy, they blessed her with grandchildren - Devin, Mason, and McKenna. Friends may greet the family on Sunday 6-8pm in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ and on Monday after 10am in the Woodstown Presbyterian Church, 48 Auburn St, Woodstown, NJ. Funeral service will follow at 11am on Monday. Memories may be shared at www.kelleyfhpitman.com.
