Obituary of Robert Howard Govett

Robert Howard Govett, age 78, died on February 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. Bob lived in Pitman his entire life and graduated from Pitman High School in 1959. He received his Associates Degree from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art. Bob worked as a Facilities/Plant Manager for many different companies in South Jersey, retiring in 2010. During his retirement, Bob worked as the facilities manager for the Pitman United Methodist Church, where he was also a lifelong dedicated member. Bob was a lifetime member of Pitman Fire Company # 1, active for 62 years. He served as Lieutenant, Captain, and President, and was named Firefighter of the Year in 1995. As a 2nd-generation fireman, the Govetts have been protecting Pitman from fires for over 90 years. Bob was also an accomplished artist. He received many awards for his paintings, and had his art featured in the 2019 Pitman Art Stroll. He was a member of the Garden State Watercolor Society, the Gloucester County Art League and the Pitman Art Gallery. Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn (nee Predmore), children Denise and Stephen Mennella and Stacy and Dave Rowan, and grandchildren Hannah and Alex Mennella and Emily and Abigail Rowan. Friends may greet the family on Saturday after 9am in the Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071. Service will be at 11am. Interment following at Bethel Cemetery.
