Herbert Pierce Godfrey, a long-time resident of Pitman, died September 24, 2020. His was a life of service. During the Vietnam War, he served his country in the US Army as an Electronics Technician. Later, while employed in a similar position at GE, he became a member of Pitman Fire Co. #1, where he ultimately became a Life Member and Captain of Engine 2818. He served the Pitman Ambulance Association as driver and EMT, later becoming a Paramedic with Underwood Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of Pitman VFW Post 6469, and of Elwood Kindle American Legion Post #49, which he served as Chaplain for a number of years, and later as Base Commander. He was active in community affairs, a regular attender at Boro Council meetings, and served as a Judge with the Pitman Board of Elections.
An active outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting along with camping and exploring the Pine Barrens.
Herb is survived by his sister, Judith Isenhart; a nephew, Justin Isenhart; a great-niece and great-nephew, several cousins, and his cherished life-long friends.
Guests may call at the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Avenue, Pitman NJ, on Tuesday, September 29, after 9:30 am. Friends are invited to share their memories of Herb either online at www.kelleyfhpitman.com., or to join the family at 11:00 as they gather to share their memories of him. Interment will be at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown NJ.
