Obituary of Dorothy Richardson

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy "Dot" Richardson of Glassboro, NJ passed away at home on December 9, 2020 in the company of family. She was born Dorothy Schurmann on October 25, 1924 in Ocean View, NJ, to Anthony and Elsie (Ott) Schurmann (one of seven children). She was the devoted wife of George Gunter Richardson and loving mother of Robbie Richardson. Dorothy is survived by daughter Linda L. Richardson of Glassboro, NJ; son Douglas E. Richardson and his wife, Patricia Brady, of Haverhill, MA; son Gregory Richardson and his wife, Cynthia of Stow Creek Twp., NJ; sister Agnes McManus of Cromwell, CT; brother Richard Schurmann and his wife Carolyn of Alpharetta, GA; granddaughter Cooper J. Richardson and grandson Noah G. Richardson, both of Philadelphia, PA; grandson Jack Brady, his wife, Gina Fiorillo, their daughter, Dot's great-granddaughter Molly Fiorillo of Milltown, NJ; and a multitude of fun-loving nieces and nephews. Dorothy graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1941. She moved to New York City where she helped the war effort by building electronic equipment. After the war she met and married Army veteran George Richardson, and they raised their family in Roseland and West Caldwell, NJ. They moved to Harrison Twp. and she joined the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman. She was employed as a buyer at Struthers-Dunn of Mantua. Dot was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling with her sisters Gladys and Lucy, and in her later years raised goats, wrote poetry and became a skilled basket weaver. She has been blessed by the love and company of her siblings and children, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren. Dot was always ready to share a game, a good meal or an odd song, and made the world a much brighter place in countless ways. Friends and family may call on Monday December 14 from 10-11AM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service will be held at 11AM. Burial will be the same day at 1:00PM at the Seaville Methodist Church cemetery, 3100 Shore Rd., Seaville NJ 08230. While all are welcome, Dot would not want anyone to place themselves at risk by traveling or attending the services, and the morning service will be available by Zoom. Visit https://kelleyfhpitman.com where you may also post your thoughts and memories in text, picture or video. In lieu of flowers, which Dorothy always enjoyed most in the wild, please consider a donation in her memory to the food pantry at the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, 10 Wildwood Ave., Pitman, or to a local food bank of your choice.
