Obituary of Anna Marie Mecca

Mecca, Anna Marie, (nee Rapa) 81, Pitman, NJ, passed away January 15, 2021. Anna Marie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister/sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Anna Marie was born July 25, 1939 to Anna and Frank Rapa. She grew up in Camden, NJ, and attended Camden Catholic schools. She graduated from Rutgers University, on a full scholarship, then furthered her French studies in Quebec. Anna Marie met the love of her life, Anthony Mecca, whom she married September 1, 1961. She taught first grade before beginning her family, and continued to work in the school system as a special education assistant and substitute teacher. She worked in the Admissions Office at Rowan University for 37 years, and made many lifelong friends. She was a devoted member of her church, Altar & Rosary Society, PTA, and her local Senior Citizen clubs. Anna Marie loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved the ocean, especially loved family vacations in Ocean City, NJ. She loved the casinos, scratch-off lottery tickets, Wawa frozen cappuccinos, breakfast in bed, game shows, crossword puzzles, dancing at the Jetty, and lobster/crabs with lots of butter. Anna Marie was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Frank Rapa, her brother Joseph, and sister, Theresa. Anna Marie will be dearly missed by her children, Maria Raithby (Nigel), Lisa Daywalt (Charles), Anthony Mecca Jr., Christina Fennell (Dale), grandchildren, Chelsea, Hannah, Anthony III, Trevor, and dearest family friend Kimberly Rishel . Friends may greet the family from 9-10:45am on Saturday, July 24, 2021 in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral Mass will be at 11am in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church (Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish), 161 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Interment New St. Mary's Cemetery.
