MARY (TOPI) CERAMI
DOD: 01/30/2021
What a great gal. I have been privileged to know her for over 10 years. Our start was a bit rocky as I did not know the burdens she carried alone. As it turns out, she was a delight to be near and is truly leaving a hole in my heart, and she expressed the same sentiment to me.
She was opinionated, thoughtful, and scattered. She took mental flights of fancy trying to plan the future. She brought color to my life with her descriptive powers. She was mesmerizing as I saw the workings of her head. She planned everything.
She had some repeated thymes. Hers was a life to be fully lived. She cherished quiet hours where she would get ideas, accomplish tasks, and paint. I hope she finished her last portrait of a neighbor. She said she had not put the face in. All those paintings, and she was losing her sight.
She said she felt it coming on, and that she felt her time was at an end. In the end, she planned it according to her daughter. Her lungs had been compromised by the virus and she would have very limited mobility. Because of the virus she was isolated from all the friends and activities she cherished, so she asked to stop all unnecessary aid. She passed in two hours. She knew. She knew.
There will be no viewing or funeral for my friend. She will be cremated according to her wishes. My guess is her ashes will be scattered in Maine with her husband and dogs.
I am grieving. I miss my forever friend

I loved Mary. She found humor and beauty in everything, and shared so much of herself with the world. The sketches she did during her trip to Alaska with Bob a few years ago were wonderfully evocative. The way she cared for her late husband Joe was perfect; she kept him from sliding into the trap of self-pity without letting him see what she was doing. We've lost a true gift.

Toppi was a wonderful, kind, supportive, fun loving, talented, happy, caring person. She and Joe were the first to welcome me to the family even before I was part of the family. I cherish the memories I have of both of them. Will miss her.
