Obituary of Bettie Lea Chaplin

Please share a memory of Bettie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bettie Lea Chaplin (nee Kennedy), age 82, completed her journey to heaven on February 23, 2021, at her home in Turnersville, where she has lived since 1970. She battled ALS with grace and dignity and was ready to see her Savior and family in heaven. She was born and raised in upstate New York. She went to Greece Central School from Kindergarten thru 8th Grade and John Marshall High School for two years and two years at Barker Central School where she graduated in 1956. Bettie married the love of her life, Glenn Chaplin on June 7, 1958, in the Hartland Methodist Episcopal Church, where they met. After living two years in Rochester, they moved to Warrensburg where they began to raise their children. They lived there for 10 years until their move to New Jersey. Together they had two sons and three daughters. Bettie will most be remembered for her bubbly spirit and generous love of people of all ages. She fully committed herself to share her God-given gifts and seeking out teachable moments to share with others. Bettie was actively involved in every step of her children's journey. She led their 4-H Club (Energetic Clovers), taught Sunday School, led the Children's Choir, and was the Youth Leader at their church. She also enjoyed 18 years teaching skincare through Mary Kay cosmetics and helped women of all ages embrace their beauty. After her children were grown, she furthered her Christian education at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Scarritt College for Christian Workers and later completed her certification through the Wesley Theological Seminary. Finally, she received her pastor's license through Drew University. She and Glenn entered the ministry as co-pastors in 1998 and served at the Aura and Monroe Methodist Churches, Bridgeport Methodist, and Pitman UMC. Her final position was serving as the chaplain at Pitman Manor Retirement Home. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Glenn Chaplin, two sons, David (Carol) and Daniel, and three daughters, Mary (Paul), Peggy (David), and Susan. She is also survived by her sister, Peg, and brother-in-law Paul along with her sister-in-law Ruth. She leaves a long legacy with her twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is sincerely loved by her nephews and nieces and their children. She was predeceased by her parents, Carlyle and Corinne Kennedy, and brother, Bill. Friends may greet the family after 9 AM on February 27th at St. John's United Methodist Church at 149 Ganttown Road in Turnersville. The Celebration of Life service will be at 11 AM. (Live streaming and recording of the service will be available.) https://www.discoverstjohns.org/worship-online (Strict Health & Safety protocols will be in place during the service.)
