Obituary of Betty Chloe Longacre

Betty Chloe McCombs Longacre of Sewell, New Jersey, formally of Salisbury, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, April 9, 2022. Chloe was born on May 21, 1930 in Kannapolis, North Carolina to Leo and Rosalie McCombs. She graduated from J.W. Cannon High School, class of 1948. She earned a BS degree from Gettysburg College in Psychology and a MLS degree in Library Science from Glassboro State College. Chloe met her husband David at Gettysburg College, and they were married on Sunday, August 29, 1954 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis. Together for 66 years, they made a home in Allentown, Pennsylvania; Glassboro, New Jersey; and China Grove, North Carolina. They spent their last few years at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury, North Carolina. Chloe worked as a reference librarian at Gloucester County College in Sewell, New Jersey. She was a member of Kimball Memorial Church in Kannapolis for many years. Chloe is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David W. Longacre; her son, David A. Longacre; and her brothers, Lewis "Pete" McCombs and Ronald M. McCombs. Those left to cherish Chloe's memory are her Daughter, Karen DeFrank (Len); Daughter in law, Leslie Longacre; grandchildren Sara Truluck (Ashlee); Lenessa DeFrank; David M. Longacre; Jamie Longacre; Amanda Longacre; and great grandson Elliot Truluck. Chloe will be remembered for many things, but especially her love of candy and ice cream, her beautiful alto voice, and her love of classical music. David was a long time New York Yankees fan and after all those years together, Chloe was, too. A graveside memorial service will be held at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis on June 18, 2022 at 11 AM with Rev. John Futterer presiding.
