Obituary of Frederic Jay Friedlin

Please share a memory of Frederic to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frederic Jay Friedlin, D.O., age 91, died on April 16, 2022. Jay was a lifelong Pitman, New Jersey resident. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from Ursinus College in 1952. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1956 and then began his family medicine career in Pitman in 1958. He continued to care for patients at the same location in Pitman until 2018 when he retired at the age of 87. He was a great fan of all Philadelphia sports teams and was also a member of Mensa. An avid reader with many interests, he enjoyed reading and learning about subjects ranging from psychiatrist Carl Jung to UFOs. His favorite author was Charles Dickens and he was president of the Dickens Fellowship (Philadelphia Branch) for many years. He loved performing skits from different Dickens novels with his wife Joan at annual Dickens Fellowship conferences. He was instrumental in persuading Cedric Charles Dickens (the great-grandson of Charles Dickens) to give a lecture at Pitman High School in 1995. Much to the delight of his family, Jay also enjoyed creating humorous poetry and giving readings of those poems at holiday events. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan (nee Burton), children Cheryl (David) Saunders and Dr. Jeff (Joyce) Friedlin. Also survived by five granddaughters; Erin (David) Scott, Allison (AJ) Lee, Lisa (John) Henderson, Jill (Cameron) Maynard, Jessica Friedlin, 7 great grandchildren and nieces Carol Kramme, Linda Walker and Hope Ouellette. He was predeceased by his sister Joanne Kramme. Friends may greet the family at 9:30am on Saturday, April 23 in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service will be at 11am.
