Obituary of Judith A. Schiffer

Judith A. Schiffer (Nothacker), age 81, died after a brief illness on April 23, 2022 peacefully, surrounded by family at her home in Sewell, NJ where she lived since 1991. She was predeceased by her husband Richard D. and sister Diane (Ronald) Tullie. She is survived by her children Richard E. (Deborah), Heather A. Schiffer-McIlvaine (William), Greta H. Schiffer-Mock (George), grandchildren McKenna and Grant McIlvaine, Gregory and Kalyn Mock, siblings Joyce (Charles) Layer, Donald (Alma) Nothacker and dear friend Ron Marshallick her favorite adolescent cancer survior. Judy worked as an International Telephone Operator for Bell Telephone, a 1st Grade School Teacher, a Doctor's Assistant and a full time Mother. It wasn't until her children were through high school that she followed her dream and went back to college for her degree in Nursing. She highly valued education and this was her crowning achievement. She was employed by Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia where she worked in the Neurosurgery Department and worked with adolescent bone cancer patients. She was recognized Star employee by many of her patients and colleagues. Judy was known for her twisted sense of humor and always came back at you with a witty reply. She loved being with people who she could have a laugh with no matter how impolite the conversation or joke. Judy shared her love of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet with her grandchildren. Every Christmas she would take her grandchildren to see a different version of the ballet. She loved and supported her grandchildren in every endeavor. Above all she shared her quick wit and sense of humor to be passed on. Judy received a special gift one Christmas her first feline Bengal named Prince Tabu. Tabu was a very unique cat who was featured on the Philadelphia news and Animal Planet for adopting a brood of mallard ducklings after they were separated from their mother. She loved the Bengal Cat breed so much that she acquired another and named him D'Artagnan. They will be with her forever. Judy's favorite food was candy with vanilla walnut fudge, salt water taffy, Milky Ways, Allsorts licorice, Peppermint Patties, and black jelly beans, being at the top. Not to mention butter rum and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Judy loved to travel visiting many US states including Alaska and Hawaii and international destinations including the Caribbean, Canada, China, Eastern Europe and Switzerland. Judy was a very generous person always giving more than she received. She was always willing to guide and help others to become better people especially the younger generations whether it was her children, grand children, neighborhood children, or adolescent cancer patients. She wanted to make the world a better place. Funeral service and interment in Eglington Cemetery will be private.
