Obituary of Dorothy E. Clay

Dorothy E. Clay (Black), age 81, died on October 3, 2022. Born and raised in Plainfield, NJ, Dorothy graduated from Plainfield High School in 1959. Dorothy lived in Glassboro over 50 years. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Glassboro State College and her Master's Degree in Education from Temple University. Dorothy spent her career in education at the Glassboro School System, retiring as the Basic Skills Coordinator. She then began a second career as a Reading Specialist with Harcourt Brace Publishing Company. Dorothy loved children, especially teaching them how to read. Dottie loved all things about the NJ Shore. She spent many summers with family and friends in Sea Isle City, and especially loved her shore house on 67th St. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pitman where she sang in the choir for many years. She also served as an Elder. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth R. Clay and son Gary Wriggins. She is survived by her son Jay (Kim) Wriggins, stepdaughters Barbara (Drew) Homack, Melinda (Barry) Clay-Ota, grandchildren Kevin Ota, Lauren Homack, Jared Ota, Kira Ota, Jack Wriggins, Lainey Wriggins, brother David (Shelly) Black, sister Diane Anderson and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 6-8pm in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ and on Friday after 10am in the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, 305 S. Broadway, Pitman, NJ. This will be followed by a Memorial Service at 11am. Interment will be at the Manahath Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the ASPCA.
