Obituary of Carol Rae Porter

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Rae Porter, age 71 years, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 1, 2022 in Jefferson Hospital, Washington Twp., NJ. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she had lived in Washington Twp. since 1989. She grew up in Haddon Township and graduated from Haddon Twp. High School in 1969. She also was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia with a double degree in Cytology and Cytogenetics. Carol retired from Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia as a Cytopathology Supervisor after 15 years in 2016. She loved and enjoyed her church members at Joy Community Fellowship for over 20 years. She mentored teens through one of her favorite local Christian ministries called Young Life. She was a member of the Gloucester County Nature Club and enjoyed their outings, especially bird watching. Carol loved going down to the New Jersey shores. She was a long-time member of Lake Kandle with many friends there. She especially enjoyed bringing her granddaughter to their pool. She was a caring neighbor and truly appreciated the care she received from them. Many people described her as being sweet, encouraging, forgiving, fun-loving and intelligent. Carol was a loving mother and best friends with her daughter Julie. She loved her son-in-law, Merrill, and she made sure he knew it. However, her favorite person in this world was her granddaughter, Olivia Grace. She made no secret of this if you are familiar with her Facebook page. They spent time together quite often doing fun and everyday activities. Olivia referred to her as "Ga." - But most importantly of all to Carol, was that she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ in 1990. After that, she would tell you that her relationship with God changed everything for her. She was given a new life. Carol knew she was fully forgiven, made clean, and utterly loved by her Savior, for He had sacrificed his life for her, taking the penalty of her sin on Himself. And she wanted everyone else in her world to know that same love and worth too! She became more loving over time, and let go of past bitterness, and anger. She loved studying the Bible, and by doing so, came to know who God is more fully, enjoying Him all the more. Near the end of her life, she said that she had a peace that passes all understanding, because she knew she was going to her true home to be with God and her loved ones in Christ. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Julie and Merrill Franklin, her granddaughter Olivia, in-laws, Leona and Harry Porter, Michele and Frank Leonetti, as well as nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents Merlin and Elizabeth (nee Caldwell) Miller, and her friend and ex-husband, Daniel L. Porter. ? Friends may call Wednesday, December 7th from 11:30AM to 12:45PM in Joy Community Fellowship Church, 309 Florence Ave., Pitman, NJ 08071. The funeral service begins at 1PM at church. A private burial will be on Thursday at Bethel Cemetery in the presence of Julie and Merrill.
