Obituary of Idella "Dell" Henry May

Please share a memory of Idella "Dell" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dell Henry May of Glassboro. 84 years young, Sunrise 7/22/38 – Sunset 12/25/22. Survived by her loving children: Wendy L. May of Barnsboro, Charlene and her husband Don Fuhrer of Pitman, J. Andrew May of Yardley, PA. Pre-deceased by her son, B. Scott May in 2003 and her loving husband, Leroy in April 2022 after 62 years of marriage. Adored and enjoyed by her grandchildren: Kyle Fuhrer and his wife, Roxanne; Collene Fuhrer Alvarez and her husband Joe; Henry May, Grace May. Great-Grandchildren: Kylie, Audrey and Liam who called her "GG." Dell is also survived by her two cousins, Ken Henry and his family of Wenonah and Jack Henry and his family of California, who became her brothers" when she came to live with them in Pitman in 1950. She often said they were an added blessing in her life. She graduated from Pitman High School in 1956. Dell was a cheerleader, played field hockey and softball. Her high school friendships were precious to her and they continued through her entire life. Representing the Pitman Hobo Band, Dell was voted Miss Congeniality of the Miss Pitman Pageant in her senior year and continued to share that same personality until her last breath. Dell was also a member of Eastern Star and was presented her 60 year pin in a private ceremony by her dear friend. She was very proud to have been the Court Administrator in Glassboro for over 20 years. She loved sharing the bench with the many judges of Gloucester County who have said how she kept them in line, along with all the attorneys who came before her in the Court. Dell had more friends in this world than anyone could imagine. She loved them just as she loved her family. She was devoted to them and kept immaculate records of their lives, never forgetting a birthday. Her memory was one for the record books, remembering dates, addresses, names of neighbors and those who crossed her path, even if for a brief moment. And did she love to tell stories – a true "Henry trait." As her children, we use to ask prior to her telling us a story, "mom, approximately, how long is this story going to last?" Dell was the Mama Bear of the May family. She loved, cared for and shaped all 4 of her children into caring, loving individuals who will forever hold her love in their hearts. She attended every sporting event of each of her children; from Field Hockey, Basketball, Football, Soccer, Tennis, Marching Band – she went to them all. She loved all the family gatherings, from birthday pool parties to the holidays. Mom never missed a party. Every day spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was her greatest joy. Our Mother It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. Though your smile is gone forever and your hand we cannot touch, we will always have sweet memories of Our Mother we loved so much. Dell's life was well lived and her memory will forever remain in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 5, 2023 at Kelley's Funeral Home in Pitman from 9:30-11:00 Visitation with Service at 11:00am.
