Obituary of Janet James Hill

Janet James Hill died at the age of 98 in Wilmington Delaware on January 28 th. She was born in Erie Pennsylvania in 1924 to Howell Llewellyn James and Cora Swan James. She graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1942 and attended Grove City College, Grove City Pennsylvania. She was married to John Milton Eckerd Hill of Erie in March 1946. Mr. Hill was the son of Hazel Marshall of Erie and Murray Mitchell Hill of Wilmington Delaware and grandson of J. Milton Eckerd of Erie. Janet was predeceased by her 4 siblings, Margaret James of San Francisco, Howell "Bud" James of Erie, Douglas James of Erie and Robert James of Charleston. Janet was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Erie and was active in the choir and many civic affairs. After their marriage, Janet and Milt spent a brief time in Jamestown New York and then resided in Erie until 1963. They then moved to Wilmington Delaware where Milt was owner and President of Eckerd Drugs Northern. They resided in Hockessin Delaware, Kennett Square Pennsylvania and Chadds Ford before moving to Sanibel Island Florida when Milt retired. Milt passed away in 1999. Janet was a member of the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church in Wilmington where she was active as a Youth Group leader and served as an ordained Deacon. Janet is survived by her children, James Hill of Marietta Georgia, Jack Hill of Pitman New Jersey, Mitch Hill of Wilmington Delaware and Michelle Carpenter of Warwick Maryland: six grandchildren, Heather Cooper, Erik Hill, Tara Hill, Megan Hill, Jonathan Hill and Devon Katzmire, and seven great grandchildren, Andrew Cooper, Jackson Cooper, Madison Hill, Jack Thomas Hill, Jordan Hill, Penelope Hill and Julian James Hill. Janet's Memorial Service will be at The Presbyterian Church at Woodbury New Jersey on February 4 at 11:00AM with Visitation at 10:00AM. She will be interred at Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington Delaware with her husband. Memories may be shared at ww.kelleyfhpitman.com.
