George Captain J. Rowson, age 79 years, of Pitman, NJ died on May 5 at home. Born in Philadelphia, raised in Clayton, he had been a resident of Pitman since 1957. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was an electrician for 60 years, working with Local #592/351 of Vineland. He retired in 1992. He was inducted in to the Clayton High School Hall of Fame in 2006 for Football. He was a member of the VFW Post #2071 and volunteered his services at the Post and his Church. He loved music, especially the music of his Irish heritage, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing baseball and hunting. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rita Marie (nee Desiderio). Survived by his children, Elaine (Don) Hinrichs of Clayton, Roxanne (T.J.) McLeer of Glassboro, Tim Rowson, Terri Rowson, and Brenda (Ray) Dillon, all of Pitman, grandchildren, Donnie and Stephanie Hinrichs, T.J. McLeer, Jr., Danielle Forte, Beth Wescott, Christopher and Aimee Rowson, Erin Englund, and Jordan Dillon, great grandchildren Kyndel, Daulton, and Landon Henrichs, Trey and Tristan McLeer, Juliana and Lorenzo Forte, and Rocco Billington. Also survived by his brothers David Rowson of Mantua Twp., Richard Rowson of Elmer, and his sisters Mary Hunter of Newfield, and Eileen Bompensa of Clayton. Friends may call on Wednesday from 8:30 to 10:30 AM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ. Funeral Mass at 11 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 49 W. North St., Clayton, NJ.
