Waltraut Elizabeth Stech (nee Schroeder) age 85, of Pitman, NJ and formerly of Camden, NJ left this earth to be with the Lord on April 1, 2008 surrounded by her family. She was born on February 11, 1923 to Adolph and Frieda Schroeder in the Westphalia section of Germany. Loving mother of Frank (Barbara), William (Mary) and Janet Gallagher (Bob). Grandchildren Jennifer (Shawn), William Jr., Mary, Rachel Stech, Jeanette and Kelley Gallagher. Predeceased by her husband of 39 years Frank L. Stech, Sr. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Lee (Bob) and brother Herbert Schroeder (Joan). Loving cousin of Myra Welsey of Marlton, NJ. Waltraut came to America in 1937 and immediately was befriended by Frieda Schuck who helped her learn to speak English and assimilate to American culture in the Polish section of Camden. Their friendship lasted her entire life. She married Frank L. Stech, Sr., owner of Stech Transportation in Camden, NJ. With her support and guidance, the family business expanded to founding Standard Warehouse & Distributing Company of Pennsauken, NJ in 1955 and MidAtlantic Distribution of Bristol, PA in 1984. She remained Secretary-Treasurer of the organization until her retirement in 1993. In 1956 the family moved to Pitman, NJ where they spent many happy years. She was happiest watching her children grow, taking care of her home and socializing with her friends and neighbors. She was a devoted and loving Grandmother who took immense pride in their success and accomplishments. In 2004 she moved to the Pitman Manor where she made many friends with the other residents and staff. She was very happy and well taken care of at the Manor. She will never be forgotten by those who knew her for her kindness, humor and positive outlook on life. Friends may call on Friday 7-9pm and Saturday 9-10am in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service Saturday 10:30am in St. James Lutheran Church, 400 Columbia Ave, Pitman, NJ. Interment Manahath Cemetery.
