Samuel L. Ayling, age 92 died on May 5, 2008 at the Health Care Center at Washington Twp. He was a longtime resident of Washington Twp., NJ. Samuel was a graduate of Philadelphia College of Bible in 1937 and the International Correspondence Course in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Ramsome Lift Equipment Co. as a Sales Rep and retired in 1977 after 39 years. He was a former member of Chapel Heights United Methodist Church and a present member of the Pitman United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School at both of these churches for many years. Sam was a former member of Washington Twp and Pitman Rotary Clubs where he had 50 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of the the Philadelphia Maritime Society, American Materials Handling Society of Phila and former President of Washington Twp Board of Education. Samuel was an accomplished Trumpeter. He was a member of the Young People Church of the Air Brass Quartet on Percy Crawford's Radio Program from 1938-1946. He also played in the ensemble of Percy Crawford's T.V. Youth on the March from 1946-1948 and was a guest trumpeter on the Frazier Gospel Hour in Philadelphia. Sam was president of Woodbury Symphony Orchestra. Sam was a guest trumpeter for many churches in Philadelphia and the South Jersey area. He was the husband of the late Lillian (nee Martell). Survived by children S. Arthur (Barbra) of Washington Twp, Richard A. (Francine) of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, brother John A. of Bellingham, WA, and sisters Ethel Mae Thompson of Elinburg, TX and Alma C. Ayling of Tahlequah, OK. Friends may call on Friday after 10am in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Funeral service will be at 11am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
