Elizabeth Louise Bettie Brandon (nee Crume) died on June 8, 2008 surrounded by her family. Born in Colorado and she was raised in Springfield, MO. Predeceased by her parents Dennis and Bess (Howell) Crume, brothers Eddie and Ralph and sister Kay. Survived by her sister Marie of Florida. She was married to her beloved late husband John L. Brandon for over 40 years. John and Bettie moved to Pitman prior to WWII to join Mobil Oil Co. and lived in Pitman throughout their children's schooling. She was a longtime active member of the Presbyterian Church. In retirement they moved to White Stone, VA where they enjoyed living on Tabbs Creek, boating, gardening and each other. Bettie remained active in her art group in Kilmarnock until she returned to Pitman to be closer to her three daughters. She is survived by Jane Brandon Williams of Pitman, Ann B. Laliotes and husband John of Greenville, NC, and Mary Leslie Brandon of Blackwood. She will be remember by her grandchildren, Nancy Meighan and husband John and great grandchildren Sarah, Annie, and Michael, Jennifer Sharpe and husband Andrew, Kate Williams and Perry Antrilli and great grandchildren John, Jim, Camelia and Vincent. Among special relatives, she will be missed by her other daughters Martha Fisher and Nancy Covert, Julie, Marizee and their extended families. Among her many friends, she will be remembered fondly by sister in law Grace McClain and family of Pitman. Her favorite saying was I don't know where I am going, but I will know it when I get there. Bettie was a great mother and loving spouse, a onetime commercial and private artist, accomplished seamstress, good cook, avid gardener and naturalist. She was the earliest of local environmentalists concerned about saving Alcyon Lake in the 1970's. She was known for her sense of humor-she loved to laugh and tell stories of places she had been and people she and John had known in their travels. Memorial service will be on Wednesday at 11am in the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, 305 S. Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church organ fund at the above address.
