I just recently learned about Nancy Dougherty’s passing. I immediately passed the news along to my daughters, Elizabeth and JeanLouise. Both of them will be extremely upset since Nancy played a role in their lives. I suspect hundreds upon hundreds of girls owe a great deal to Nancy’s guidance.
I had the fortune of having a few long conversations with Nancy, and I was always struck by her sincerity and breadth of knowledge. My daughters and I often laugh about how, despite her frail appearance, Nancy would suddenly shock players and anyone watching by loudly shouting "CORNER!!!" during a game.
Her love for the game, her knowledge, her demeanor…all of those things made Nancy Dougherty a wonderful influence. I’ll never forget the last game my older daughter played for Nancy. When the buzzer went off, one of her teary-eyed teammates hugged her and said, “Remember, we’ll always be Nancy’s girls.”
Without Nancy and the Belles, my daughters would’ve missed out on so many life-changing opportunities. She truly should have a place in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

We are so sad to see Nancy leave this world. She was a woman of many accomplishments and will be missed by all who lives she touched.

So sorry for your loss. We knew Nancy through basketball with the Philadelphia Belles. She was always there for the girls and put in many hours of volunteering to help each of those girls reach the next step. It wasn't always about basketball -- it was about life in general and the things she taught the girls. We had been out of the basketball world for a few years and ran into Nancy at a volleyball game that she was refeeing. Always enjoyed hearing her stories of all the traveling she did. My she enjoyed life and she will truly be missed by many people. God bless you and be with your family.
