Obituary of James Albert Austin

James "Jim" Austin, 80, of Sewell, NJ, passed away, Tuesday, August 23, 2016 surrounded by family in his home. Jim was born September 30, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Frederick Albert Austin and Margaret Veronica Dougherty. He attended Overbrook High School. On September 22, 1956 he married Mary Power in Philadelphia. James was employed as a Pressman at the Philadelphia Bulletin until its closing, then continued at the Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News. He ended his career as the Business Agent for Printer's Local 16N (his dream job) until his stroke in 1997. He was an avid golfer as well as a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He especially loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Jim is survived by his wife Mary C. (nee Power), six children, Katherine (Kevin), Jim (Vince) Ann (Jerome), Mike (Rose), Tom, Tim and Marie Lamb, and his nine grandchildren, Kevin (Melissa), John (Cole), Jimmy, Michael, Andrew, Noah, Tommy, Timmy and Allie, his two brothers Robert (Annamae), and Joseph (Mary), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Margaret, brother Fred, and dear cousin Nancy Williams. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27 at Mary Mother of Mercy Parish (Our Lady of Lourdes Church), 500 Greentree Road, Glassboro, NJ 08028. Friends may call from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m., Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.
