Obituary of Elwood F. Ewan

Elwood "Woody" F. Ewan, age 94 died on May 28, 2017 at his home in Pitman. Born in Clayton, NJ, Elwood moved to Pitman in 1926. He graduated from Pitman High School in 1940. Elwood enlisted as a private in the Army and retired a Lt. Col after serving 32 years in the Army and then the New Jersey Army National Guard. During World War II, Elwood served in the Pacific, the United States, France, Germany and Austria. He was a survivor of the December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. He took part in the Liberation of Dachau, a concentration camp in Germany. Elwood was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Presidential Citation. He worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and retired after 35 years in 1980. He is a past president of the NJ Telephone Pioneers. Elwood was active in youth organizations. He was one of the first little league managers (Brooks Team). He coached 7th and 8th grade basketball and is a past Cubmaster of Pack 218. Elwood was also a member and past Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Pitman. He loved bowling, playing golf and traveling to Hawaii. He was married to his high school sweetheart Louise C. (nee Fegley) from 1944 until her death in 2003. Survived by daughters Sherry (Bill) Sieg, Patty (Roy) Harmon, Betty Williams, Connie Catinna, grandchildren John (Elisha) Sieg, Scott (Maggie) Sieg, Doug (Duffy) Sieg-Koller, Chad (Andrea) Harmon, Jared (Erica) Harmon, Lauren and Leslie Pinero, Sydney, Mitch and Matt Catinna and great grandchildren Caitlyn and Brooklyn Sieg, Jace and Emma Rogers, Sam Fuchs, Brynn Koller, Landon, Gabriella, Piper and Kelsey Harmon. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday 7-9pm in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ and on Thursday after 10am in the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, 10 Wildwood Ave, Pitman, NJ.
