Obituary of Mary D. Saul

Mary D. Saul, nee Devonshire, age 90 of Pitman Manor passed away on January 28, 2014. Raised in Pitman for 21 years, she lived in Barnsboro for 2 years, then moved to Glassboro for 52 years before moving to Winter Haven, FL for 9 years and moved back to the Pitman Manor 6 years ago. Mary is survived by her daughter Carol S. (George) Diament of Bridgeton, NJ and her son Dr. Gary (Mary) Saul of Austin, TX, grandchildren Jonathan Diament, Rebecca (Paul) McDevitt, Katie Saul and Devon Saul, 2 great grandchildren, brothers Charles (Lois Jean) and Donald (Elsie) Devonshire, sisters in law Evelyn and Ida Saul and several nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from Pitman High School, Class of 1940 and received her B.A. Degree from Thomas Edison College in 1993 at the age of 70. She retired as Executive Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Pitman after 17 years. She formerly worked as a secretary at Mobil Research, Philadelphia Navy Yard and Pitman High School. She was a Water Safety Instructor for the American Red Cross for 19 years, teaching swimming and life-saving. She was a Boy and Girl Scout Counselor. She also owned Saul's Lamp and Gift Shoppe in Glassboro for 11 years. She was a member of the Pitman United Methodist Church, a past member of the Board of Trustees, the Evangelism Committee and the Administrative Board and a former Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Julia Circle and member of Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church, Winter Haven, FL. Mary also belonged to P.E.O. Sisterhood and was past president of Chapter AJ, Pitman and a member of Chapter DP, Winter Haven, FL. She was past president of Gloucester County Association of Educational Secretaries. For 20 years, she served on the Executive Board and was Vice President, President Elect and State President of the NJ Association of Educational Secretaries (now Professionals). Also a member of the National Assn of Retired Educational Professionals and a former member of the Song Spinners in Pitman. Friends may greet the family on Saturday after 10am in the Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman, NJ. Memorial service 11am.
