Obituary of John R. Herbert

John "Jack" R. Herbert, age 97, died on June 7, 2023. Born and raised in Sewell, Jack graduated from Pitman High School in 1944. Jack served in the US Navy from 1944-1946 on PT boats in the Philippines during World War II. After the war, Jack earned his Bachelor's Degree from Temple University. Upon graduation, he began teaching at Overbrook Regional H.S, in Clementon, NJ, where he also served as Athletic Director and head football coach. In 1963, Jack took over the family business, Herbert Fuel Oil, retiring in 1993. Jack was an avid boater and most of all, loved spending time with his family. Jack was predeceased by his daughter Joanne Nicklin and grandson Mathias Nicklin. Survived by his wife of 70 years, Kathleen (McDermott), children Janice Herbert (Steven Nydick), John A. (Claire), Victoria Herbert, grandchildren Allison, Kayleigh, Emily, Jacey, Julie, Elizabeth and great grandchildren Campbell and Ethan. Friends may greet the family on Saturday 10:30-11am in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 362 Ganttown Rd, Washington Twp, NJ. Funeral mass 11am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park.
