Obituary of William Robert McMaster, Jr.

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William Robert McMaster, Jr., age 71, formerly of Pitman, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023.  Bill graduated from Pitman High School in 1970 and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Salem College, in West Virginia. He worked as a Supervisor of Finance for GMAC, retiring after 43 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Jean (Brooks), children Daniel B. (Suzanne), Brooke M. (Brian) Moore, grandchildren Avery, Brynn, Cole, Riley and siblings Robert (Karen) McMaster, Kathy (Paul) Savage and Michael (Sharon) McMaster. Also survived by in-laws Pat & Ron Markley, Dave & Julie Brooks, and Ben & Shellie Brooks.

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Bill was a standout athlete at Pitman High School (Class of 1970). He was even invited to professional workouts with the Cincinnati Reds.  Pitman is also where he met his wife Jean Brooks (Class of 1971).  Bill and Jean were married in 1974 and moved to Salem, WV for his final year of college.  There he built log cabins during his internship with Ft. New Salem and also served as President of the Sigma Pi Fraternity for 2 years.

Bill’s love of sports was matched by his constant love for his family and community. Upon returning home to Pitman and starting a family with Jean, he served his community as Pitman Little League President for over a decade while also coaching his own children in an unending variety of sports.

Bill could often be found on the golf course with his buddies, spending time in Ocean City with family and friends, or cheering on his grandkids from the sidelines of their sporting events and other activities. He loved traveling with his family and close group of friends, and also completing his own woodworking projects with his best canine friend Jack by his side.  Bill was always surrounded by family and friends which he loved.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the Inspira Intensive Care Unit, especially Brian MacDonald, for the loving, compassionate care extended to Bill during his time there.

Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, December 6th, between 9:30 AM - 11 AM at the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ 08071. Funeral service will be at 11 AM. Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cherry Hill West Baseball Booster Club: 2101 Chapel Ave, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002 OR to the Animal Welfare Association: 509 Centennial Blvd, Voorhees Township, NJ 08043
