Obituary of Edward D. Blackman

Dr. Edward D. Blackman Jr., died May 2, 2014 at Pitman Manor. He was born Feb. 25, 1922 to Dr. Edward D. Blackman Sr. and Virginia Weist Blackman in Pitman, NJ. Survived by his wife of 69 years, Margery Myrtetus Blackman of Pitman Manor. Predeceased by brother Wayne Blackman of Pitman NJ, and survived by brother Vernon Blackman of Del Mar, CA. Predeceased by son Jesse Keith Blackman and daughter Andrea Kling. Survived by daughter Lisa Blackman (Czach Corno) of Stuart, FL and son Douglas Blackman (Lynne) of Mt Laurel NJ, son in law Richard Kling of Plymouth Meeting, PA, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Pitman NJ, he graduated from Ursinus College and University of Pennsylvania Dental School. Dr. Blackman joined the Navy as a dentist from 1942 to 1946 during World War II and served as a dentist during the Korean War in 1953. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. He met Margery Myrtetus in first grade, married her on October 7, 1944, and celebrated 69 years of marriage this past fall. Ed and Marge summered in Ocean City, NJ where they had a bayside home. Dr. Blackman had a dental practice in Pitman from 1946 to 1988. Ed was a lifelong active member of Pitman United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and on various committees and groups, active on the building committee for classroom expansion of downtown church and then for construction of new church at Lambs Road after fire destroyed the original church. He started and ran a dental clinic in the Pitman School System. Active in Kiwanis, he served as a past president. He was an accomplished wood carver, fisherman and gardener. He loved his family and friends and was faithful to his Savior. Celebration of Life Service will be held at Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman, NJ 08071, on Wednesday, May 7 starting promptly at 7 PM, with a gathering of friends and family after the service in the Social Hall. Donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to Ranch Hope for Boys, 37 Sawmill Road, Alloway, NJ 08001, and to the Pitman United Methodist Church at the address listed.
