Obituary of Jerry Michael Hoskins

Jerry Michael Hoskins "Mike", age 64, passed away on Sunday February 18th at the Jefferson Hospital in Washington Twp., NJ. Mike was born in Fairbury, IL where he was raised for 6 years before moving to Virginia. He lived there until his senior year of high school when the family moved to Bernardsville in NJ where he graduated from Bernards High School in 1977. After high school Mike attended Rowan University obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. During his working years Mike worked for Concept Systems, Burlington Coat Factory and eventually before retiring he was self-employed, doing contract work for Insight Global. Mike was a member of the Gloucester County Community Church where he served with the creative arts team working with setting up sound equipment among other things. From childhood through high school Michael loved to sing in school choir. As an adult he was a member of a traveling choir called the Sounds of Hope. He also studied karate for many years, earning his 5th degree black-belt at the Okinawa Kenpo Karate Academy here in Pitman, where he also served as an instructor. Mike had a strong interest in the space program following NASA missions avidly as well as Gene Roddenbury's vision of future exploration in Star Trek. He enjoyed Tom Clancy novels, Watership Downs, Tolkien and Peanuts, especially Snoopy, and reading Dilbert Comics. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Mike is survived by his wife Claire Smalley, children Christopher M. and Daniel K., parents Jerry J. and Ida Hoskins, brother David and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may greet the family from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday February 24, 2024 at the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave. Pitman, NJ. Services to follow at 11. A time of fellowship will be held for friends and family from 12:30 - 2:30 at Gloucester County Community Church, 359 Chapel Heights Rd, Sewell, NJ.
