Obituary of Catherine Mary Sheehan

Catherine (Kitty) Mary Sheehan (Dawson), 92, born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, peacefully passed away on February 24, 2024, at her home in Pitman, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving family. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 2651 Atlantic Ave, Atlantic City N.J. 08401 on Friday March 01, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing, N.J. Visitation will also be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 a.m. prior to the mass. Kelley Funeral Home of Pitman, N.J. will be handling the funeral arrangements. Kitty was born in Atlantic City, N.J. to Joseph and Sofie (Kontradow) Dawson on December 8, 1931. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Grammar School and graduated from Holy Spirit High School in 1949. She worked as a Switch board operator for Bell Telephone Co. for several years and later in life worked for Columbia Records and McDonald Douglas Aircraft Corp. After marriage to William J. Sheehan in 1953 they lived in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alabama, New Jersey, Kansas, Michigan, and California. She and Bill settled in Arizona in 1983. After her husband's death in 1999 she continued living in Tempe AZ until she reluctantly moved back to New Jersey in 2015. As a young adult she was a great dancer and loved big band music. As the family grew, she enjoyed bowling and playing rummy and was actively involved in her children's activities, as den mother, cookie mom as well as teaching CCD religious education. She loved children and received special joy from her 16 grandchildren and her 22 beautiful great grandchildren. She was very spiritual and a devoted Catholic. Left to cherish her memory is her half-brother Victor Dawson (Eva) of Egg Harbor Twp. N.J.; her children, Michael (Patrice) Sheehan of Weaverville N.C., Cathleen Sheehan and Barbara Lamoureux, of Pitman, Patricia Condo of Deptford N.J. John (Lisa) Sheehan of Ft. Worth Tx, and her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece Linda Gajewski (Dawson) of Pottstown P.A. her nephew Joseph Dawson of Egg Harbor Twp. N.J., niece Mary Ann Pinnette (Chapman) of Florida and nephews Dan Sheehan of Steamboat Springs Co, Timothy Sheehan of Massachusetts, Christopher Sheehan of Connecticut, and Jonathan Sheehan of New Hampshire. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Sheehan, her parents, Joseph F. and Sofie Dawson and her brother Robert Dawson.
