Obituary of Leonard B. Eckman

Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonard B. Eckman, age 81 years, passed away February 27 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ. Born in Woodbury, he lived in Pitman his entire life. When you hear Pitman, it's hard not to think of Len Eckman. He was a 1961 graduate of Pitman High School. In 1962 he started working for his father and eventually took over the family business Len Eckman Insurance. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist church of Pitman, sang in the choir, and volunteered making hot meals with the church. He spent 57 wonderful years with his high school sweetheart Carol Lee. He was a very generous man and helping others brought him joy. If anyone needed anything, he had you covered. He had a passion of buying ten of everything. :) He enjoyed his toys with his most recent toy, a 6-passenger golf cart. He spent his summers in Strathmere, while vacationing over 30 years in his beloved Bermuda. He enjoyed diner dates with his buddies as well as more recently spending time with Joelle. Most special to him were his granddaughters. He attended all of their sport activities, school activities, anything they were involved with, he was there. He would do anything for them and spoiled them like crazy. Any friend of theirs, and extended family immediately formed a special bond with him. He affectionally became known as "Pop" to everyone. Predeceased by his wife Carol Lee, his parents; H. Leonard and Edith Budd; sister Sue Gilmore and his granddaughter Brielle Lindner. Survived by his children Steve (Kristin) Eckman, Holly (Michael) Lindner, grandchildren; Nicole (Patrick) Collins, Brenna and Angelina Lindner. Also survived by his sister Lynne Henry and brother Bruce (Shelly) Eckman. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9-11:30 AM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Memorial service to follow at 11:30 AM. Burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park will be private.
