Obituary of Helen M. Mitchell

Helen M. Mitchell, age 92, peacefully passed away on March 14, 2024, at her home in Ocean View, NJ with her family by her side. Born in Philadelphia, Helen grew up in Clayton graduating from Clayton High School in 1950. After high school Helen attended then Glassboro State Teachers College earning a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. Helen moved to Pitman with the love of her life, her late husband of 66 years Harry. Helen was a first-grade teacher in Glassboro retiring after 38 years. Helen loved her family and was her grandsons' number one fan. Helen loved playing golf, Mah-Jong, and Bridge with her family and friends from Pitman, Ocean City, and Sea Isle City. She was also a member of the Pitman United Methodist Church. In 2020 she sold her home in Pitman and moved to Ocean View to be closer to her son. She is survived by her son Douglas (Patricia), grandsons Sean (Tina) and Ryan (Kristen), great-grandson Callan and a few nieces and nephews. Friends and family may greet the family on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Godfrey Funeral Home, 644 South Shore Rd. Marmora, NJ 08223 from 11 AM till 12:30 PM. Funeral Service to be held at 12:30 PM. Interment will be on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 500 Delsea Dr. Sewell, NJ 08080. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Journey Hospice staff and to Mavis, Helen's live in nursing aid, who helped comfort and take care of her.
