Obituary of Paul Richard Gaunt

Paul Richard Gaunt was born May 14, 1964 in Washington Township and passed away after a 6 month- battle with melanoma on June 5, 2014. During his final days, he was treated by the very capable physicians and staff at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, NJ, and at the Vitas Hospice Unit at Kennedy Hospital in Stratford, NJ. He is survived by his mother Janet Gaunt and sister Connie Townsend and husband Craig of Washington Township, and his brother Ed Gaunt and his wife Carol of Carrboro, NC. He is also survived by his nieces Jennifer Townsend of Ft Walton Beach, FL, and Aimee Gaunt of Chapel Hill, NC; his nephews Kevin Gaunt (and wife Michelle) of Washington, DC, Cliff Townsend (and his wife Regina) of Washington Twp, Ryan Gaunt (and his wife Courtney) of Los Osos, CA, MSgt Curt Townsend (USAF) of Suisun, CA, Chad Townsend of Valpraiso, FL, and Cameron Gaunt of Oakland, CA; and by his grand-nieces Zoe Gaunt of Chapel Hill, and Riley and Chloe Townsend of Washington Twp; and grand-nephews Konstantinos and Socrates Gaunt recently of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Dale Audrey (nee Young) Gaunt in 2012, and his father Richard M. Gaunt in January 2013. Paul was a 1981 graduate of Washington Township High School, and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Camden campus of Rutgers University. Paul was awarded the Sam Dan (3rd degree black belt) by the Korean Soo Bahk Do Association in 1999. From 2000 to November 2013, he lived in Tybee Island and in the Savannah, Georgia area where he married Dale Young in September 2003. During his career, he worked for UPS, was a Snap-On Tool dealer and most recently was a Trolley Conductor for Old Town Trolley Tours in Savannah, where he was named Conductor of the Year in 2010. Paul loved playing with his nieces and nephews, growing flowers, telling the history of Savannah, and NASCAR. Friends may call from 7 to 9PM Monday and after 10AM Tuesday at the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ. Funeral Services 11AM. Interment Bethel Cemetery, Washington Twp., NJ.
