Obituary of Thomas Enrico Mazzola

Thomas E. Mazzola, Jr, M.Ed was born on July 28, 1935 in Buena NJ to Thomas and Elenor Mazzola. He was raised in Vineland NJ. Tom graduated from Glassboro State College in 1956 with a BS in Elementary Education. There he met and married the love of his life, Constance Moncrief. Tom and Connie moved to Pitman and raised 3 sons. He graduated from Rutgers in 1964 with a Masters in Counseling/Psychology. A lifelong teacher and counselor, Tom spent 37 years in public education at West Deptford High School, Clearview Regional High School, Gateway Regional High School and Washington Township High School. He also taught Psychology at Camden County College. Tom also conducted numerous workshops and seminars for school districts throughout the State of New Jersey. Tom Mazzola was an original founder of SODAT, headquartered in Woodbury NJ. He was the President of Gloucester County Student Professional Association. He was the Co-Chairman of the South Jersey Council. He provided support for the REBEL organization and was a member of the John F. Kennedy Blue Ribbon Study committee on New Jersey. He also served as the Middle States Evaluator of Guidance Programs in NJ Schools. Tom's last years in public service were as a Counselor and then as the Director of Washington Township Family Community Services from 1991 to 2005. He was a facilitator who helped numerous parents cope with addiction in their families, helped residents cope with separation/divorce and helped young widow and widowers cope with the grief from the death of a spouse and/or child. Tom was an active member of the Our Lady Queen of Peace parish in Pitman NJ. He was a certified Grief Minister and helped parishioners cope with the loss of a loved one. He conducted numerous bereavement workshops as well as individual counseling. Tom Mazzola is survived by his wife, Constance M. Mazzola, his brother, Louis and Patricia Mazzola; his sister Margaret Farside; Edna Mazzola wife of Charles Mazzola (deceased); his children, Jeff and Dawn Mazzola, Christopher and Kathryn Mazzola, Adam and Jenny Mazzola; and his grandchildren, Eric and Alex Mazzola, Logan and Aidan Mazzola, Grace, Connor, Megan and Rebecca Mazzola. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8PM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Avenue, Pitman, NJ. Memorial mass at 11AM on Friday in Mary Mother of Mercy Parish, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 161 Pitman Avenue, Pitman, NJ. Intement Hillcrest Memorial Park.
