Ronald L. Margeson, 69 of Glassboro, died on November 23, 2011. Ron was a retired Naval Chief Petty Officer who served as Chief Torpedo's Mate aboard several submarines throughout the Vietnam and Cold War era's. Chief Margeson's last assignment was onboard the USS WAHOO (SS 565) home ported in Philadelphia, PA. He retired honorable from Naval Service in August 1979. One of the many noteworthy seafaring accomplishments in his life was being hand selected to Captain the 93 foot yacht formerly enjoyed by Presidents Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower and Truman. Ron skippered the former Presidential yacht "Patricia" from Naval Base Patuxent River, MD to City Island, Bronx, NY in November 1970. Upon his retirement from Naval Service Ron was employed as a tug boat captain with several companies along the Delaware River retiring with Marine Guard Services in 2004. Ron was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 679 (Glassboro) and also a life-long member of the Fleet Reserve Association. An avid marksman, he was a member of the National Rifle Association and the USANA gun club of Pittsgrove Twp. Ron was predeceased by his wife Joy A. Margeson and sister Lorraine A. Chambers. Survived by his children Peter L. Margeson and wife Dasha of Foley, AL, Melissa (Margeson) Ott of Greenville, NC, Paul W. Margeson of Martha's Vineyard, William A. Porch, Sr. of North Cape May, grandchildren Bethany A. Ott, William A. Porch, Jr., Crystal A. Porch, niece Laura Tessner Block and her husband David of Arlington, VA, great-niece and nephew Julia and John Block and former wife and friend Jacqueline M. Margeson of Manchester, NH. Burial with funeral honors will be held at sea onboard a United States Naval vessel at a later date yet to be determined. Memories may be shared at www.kelleyfhpitman.com.
