Obituary of James R. Feathers

James Robert Feathers, Sr., 81, of Pitman, NJ passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his home in Pitman, NJ. The youngest of six siblings, he was born in Cartington, PA on November 10, 1930 to Lance and Margaret (ne Donnelly) Feathers. Known to family and friends simply as "Jim," he attended Girard College for Boys in Philadelphia briefly before leaving school to embark on a career as a self-made businessman. Jim worked in a wide variety of professions before joining and later owning Walker Roofing Company in Pitman, NJ. He retired in 1999 after nearly 40 years in the roofing business. An avid boat enthusiast and skilled household craftsman, Jim maintained a home at the "Jersey shore" and lived in Strathmere, NJ, for over 20 years. Jim is survived by his wife, Joan Lorraine (ne Hutton), his son, James Robert Jr. of Lancaster County, PA, step-sons Richard F. Allen, Jr. of VeVay, IN, Gary Galvan of Barnsboro, Robert J. Allen, Sr. of Houston, TX, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Marion Toomey of West Chester, PA. Friends may call from 10 to 10:45AM in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Mother of Mercy Parish, 161 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ on Saturday, March 10. Memorial Mass 11AM. Interment private.
