Bernadine M. Witchell, age 97 years, died March 26 in the Pitman Manor, where she had resided since 1993. Born and raised in Waukegan, IL, she lived in the Miami area during the 1930's and was employed as a legal secretary. She moved to Pitman in 1942 with her first husband Clarence Nicholson, whom predeceased her in 1975. Bernadine served as president of the Women's Club of Pitman, was a member of the Pitman United Methodist Church, Julia's Circle of United Methodist Women, Philadelphia Horticultural Society, local Garden Clubs, and also volunteered at the Hospital. She married Samuel E. Witchell in 1977 and enjoyed travelling with him. Her interests included knitting, tennis, gardening, music, playing the piano, and being outdoors. She enjoyed reading historical literature and mystery books, and watching Matlock, Murder She Wrote, and Lawrence Welk on the television. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization until her death. Survived by her stepson George Witchell and his family of Pinehurst, NC, her dear friends Carol Lee and Leonard Eckman and their family of Pitman, NJ. There will be a memorial service at the Pitman Manor, 535 N. Oak Avenue, Pitman, NJ on April 15 at 2PM. Interment private.
