Obituary of Joseph John Pizzillo

Joseph John Pizzillo, Jr., age 76, died on August 9, 2020 at his home in Glassboro, NJ, where he lived since 1979. Lovingly referred to as Pep or Pepper by his family and friends, Joseph was born and raised in Canandaigua, NY. Joseph received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from SUNY Albany. While at SUNY, Joseph was an outstanding athlete and was inducted into the SUNY Albany Athletic Hall of Fame. Joseph continued his education, receiving his PhD from the University of Wisconsin. During his studies, Joseph played AAA baseball, and played semi pro soccer while at university in Mexico. Joseph started teaching at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in 1971 and retired after 49 years in 2019 where he taught Educational Law and Education Policy. Joseph moved to Glassboro in 1979, where he played a major role in building youth sports leagues for his children and the community. Joseph worked as a soccer referee for high school and collegiate teams for over 30 years, while also serving as a baseball umpire for most of that time. Survived by his wife of 10 years, Chiying Joanne (nee Yuen) Pizzillo, sons Jason (Linda), Joseph III (Stephanie), grandchildren Charlotte, Emma, Violet, Bode and Haley, siblings Jana (Terry) Constable, Nancy (Robert) Sheridan, Charles "Chuck", Thomas (Lynn Moss) and his previous wife Carole Pizzillo. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 10 am to 12:00 pm in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ. Services and interment will be in Canandaigua, NY.
